![]() So instead of copying a convention that doesn't exist, we will follow a few guiding principles while trying to establish a new convention: Others, like FindHDF5 and FindOpenSSL, use variables with no common convention: HDF5 uses HDF5_USE_STATIC_LIBRARIES while OpenSSL uses OPENSSL_USE_STATIC_LIBS. Some modules, like FindCUDAToolkit, use separate targets for each type. ![]() There's also no good guidance inside CMake for solving this problem from the find_package side. This often means that static and shared libraries cannot share object files. Although most desktop systems (especially Linux) favor PIC for its security benefits (see: ASLR), many embedded systems with slow CPUs and strict power budgets either don't want or can't afford the overhead and prefer to link statically. It would also make it harder to make independent decisions about position-independent code. However, this is fundamentally incompatible with CMake's model of linking, which admits no properties on the link itself. Static and shared libraries are typically produced from the same set of sources, too, so new CMake users sometimes expect that a single call to add_library will provide whatever mix of types they want. On the build side, this means that a single library target corresponds to a single physical library on the system. When you import SomeLib::SomeLib from a package, the library type is already determined by the time you link another target to it. So why is it tricky to provide both a static and shared version of a library in CMake? The core issue is that a CMake library target models the build and usage requirements for a single library configuration. TLDR: See this GitHub repo with the full code, complete with GitHub Actions testing. ![]() The main thing it's missing is handling dependencies. This also serves as a basic project template for a modern CMake library build. In this article we're going to design a CMake build and find_package script that enables library users to easily choose and switch between the two library types. ![]() How do we make it easy for our users to choose which one they want to link to, and why is this difficult to begin with? However, CMake library targets are always either one or the other. When packaging software libraries, it is a common requirement to deploy both a static and a shared version. ![]() From the moment Scorio opened his eyes on that first Bier I was hooked. To the point I thought I was reading a different book from everyone else. I want to say up front how much I vehemently disagree with that statement. One of the biggest critiques I heard about this book before I picked it up is how the first 400 pages are notoriously slow and that it only gets good after that. I say this to say that the plot of this book really worked for me. To the point that I actively hate the term “Character Development” when using it to describe why someone does or doesn’t like a book. I think I am in the minority but I do not care about characters in general, in that a bad or good character doesn’t make or break a story for me normally. Let me start off by saying I am a plot over character reader. I have so much to say that I don’t even know where to begin. So, I will be talking about the Plot, Characters, world building, and action/magic system. I am about to spend the next several hundred words describing and gushing about how much I love love love everything this book does and how everything worked and resonated with me. Bastion is almost entirely 2D so it ought to run well on almost any machine. So, this is my review of Bastion by Phil Tucker and let me just say up front that I absolutely LOVED this book! To an almost irrational degree. The PC version has some resolution and anti-aliasing options, but that's about it. Of course, you're free to use a gamepad if you like. The mouse actually allows you to aim your ranged weapons rather than having to rely on the game's auto-targeting system. On top of the added Portal goodies, I find the keyboard/mouse setup to be superior. PC players get the same experience as Xbox 360 gamers, but this version has the edge. The levels, the enemies, the crazy weapon-testing mini-games - there's always something up this game's sleeve. The best thing Bastion has going for it is that I was always surprised by what came next. Hell, even after I beat the game, there was a new game plus that kept my progress, started over, and made reference to the fact that I was playing through the story again. I had an in-game achievement center that rewarded me with XP for completing tasks, a store, a crazy pipe to hit and fall into an XP farm, and so on. As I played, I unlocked a new twist to my hub world (the Bastion) with each level my character achieved. These variations on the gameplay, these carrots at the end of the stick only become available the deeper you get. Was my loadout the best? How hard could I make a level and still have it be fun? What loot would the next seemingly dead end yield? I loved coming back to answer these questions. All of this made me want to keep playing - and play in different ways. As I played, I unlocked new weapons like a six shooter and a machete, I found new elixirs that increased the damage of my attacks, and I even unlocked idols that made levels tougher - made enemies unable to be beaten by normal attacks but that gave me greater rewards. ![]() I hacked and slashed my way through these levels, but I got to choose my loadouts before I set out. However, those are just the accoutrements. ![]() Toss in some fantastic music and sound effects, and Bastion is a blast to experience. Bastion's a single-player game, but the narrator was my companion through thick and thin. The narrator entertained me as he announced what I was doing and why it mattered, but his sultry tones also kept me company. The graphics are amazing I can only describe the scenes as a watercolor painting with stained glass influences. Still - and this is the rare occasion I say this about a story - it didn't matter. By the time it reached the branching ending, I didn't have strong enough feelings to really care one way or another about the outcome. ![]() Like I said, not that different from your average RPG, and it never hooked me. To do this, you'll need to dive into levels, best foes, and collect shards. You awaken as "the Kid," and set off to restore the Bastion - a spot where everyone was supposed to meet if bad stuff went down. In Bastion, something called the "Great Calamity" has rolled in and taken out your entire civilization. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Free Load Game Gog Failed To Load Game Database For PcĪs far as actual game features, the client will allow you to use cloud saves, multiplayer and matchmaking features, rollbacks, and in-game overlays. The women workers were considered expendable. However, the companies were aware of the dangers, and protected executives and scientists. Indeed, by 1928, when the suit finally went to court, two were confined to their beds. The reason? They knew many of the women wouldn’t live out the decade. For several years, the “radium girls,” as they were dubbed in the press, battled a company determined to let the proceedings drag on for as long as possible. In the 1920s, a group of five women led by plant worker Grace Fryer decided to sue American Radium. There were three main factories in the United States dedicated to this work, but the most famous is the one in Orange, NJ, where Radium Girls is set. Radium dial painting started gaining traction around 1917 in the United States, to provide watches that soldiers heading off to the trenches of Europe could read in the dark.
